2005 Report of the Year
The winner of this prestigious Award was selected from the 28 Gold Award recipients

Aurora Energy Pty Limited

Tasmanian energy retailer and distributor, Aurora Energy Pty Limited, won top honours at the 2005 Australasian Reporting Awards after six years of entering its reports for benchmarking in the ARA process. During this period the company received four Gold Awards, a Silver and a Bronze Award.

Australasian Reporting Awards Vice-Chairman, Arthur Delbridge, described Aurora’s Annual Report as combining the principles of good communication with an easy-to-read, balanced performance measurement approach. He said, “the balanced scorecard approach provides the reader with a sensible view of what was planned and measured, and what progress has been made”

Aurora Chairman, John Hasker, said benchmarking the company’s Annual Report in the ARA Awards was invaluable in consistently raising the performance bar to keep pace with community expectations:

“Aurora is committed to reporting its performance – both successes and failures – in the same clear and open manner as leading national companies... We benchmark ourselves rigorously against national and international best practice in a range of areas of business activity. Performance reporting is no exception, especially at this time when there is close scrutiny of corporate governance and business conduct… Our aim is to present a fully transparent report of the highest quality to meet the needs and expectations of all our stakeholders. Taking part in the Australasian Reporting Awards each year helps us to achieve this objective.”

Aurora is a Tasmanian government-owned electricity distribution and retail company with more than 1,000 employees. Aurora uses a ‘Balanced Scorecard’ format to report on its financial, community, social and environmental performance.
